Properties and Usage:
Trifluoroacetic acid (CAS 76-05-1), referred to as TFA, is a fluorinated organic acid with strong acidity and high reactivity.
1. Chemical synthesis and reaction catalyst
Trifluoroacetic acid is often used as a strong acid catalyst or fluorination agent in organic synthesis reactions to promote fluorination, esterification and other reactions. It is particularly suitable for use in pharmaceutical, pesticide and dye production, and can improve reaction rate and product selectivity.
2. Analytical chemistry
In liquid chromatography (HPLC), trifluoroacetic acid is often used as an additive to the mobile phase to improve the separation effect of the analysis. In particular, TFA is a common auxiliary reagent in the separation and analysis of amino acids, peptides and proteins.
3. Fluoride preparation and polymer synthesis
TFA has important applications in the synthesis of fluorinated polymers, especially in the preparation of high-performance materials such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). It acts as a catalyst or promoter for fluorination reactions, which improves the chemical resistance and high temperature stability of the material.
4. Agricultural chemicals
In agricultural chemicals, TFA is used to synthesize certain herbicides and pesticides.
Storage conditions: Ventilated, low-temperature and dry storage; Separate from H-porous agents, alkalis and cyanide.
