Thymine is white crystalline powder, insoluble in water at room temperature, slightly soluble in alcohol, soluble in alkali, acid, formamide, DMF and pyridine. Melting point 320-330°C. It is one of the main base components of DNA. Strong absorption of ultraviolet light. For glycosides, thymidylate and deoxyribothymic ribonucleic acid components. Can be produced from the hydrolysis of deoxyribonucleic acid. Used in biochemical research.
