Properties and Usage:
Tantalum pentachloride (TaCl5) is an inorganic compound. Tantalum pentachloride usually exists in the form of yellow to white crystals or powders. It is highly active and strongly hygroscopic.
Product properties
Tantalum pentachloride is a monoclinic crystal with a space group C2/m. In its molecular structure, two tantalum atoms are connected by bridging chlorine atoms to form a dimer structure, which remains stable in non-complexing solvents and can be roughly retained in the molten state. The gaseous tantalum pentachloride is in the form of a monomer with a trigonal bipyramidal shape, similar to phosphorus pentachloride (PCl5).
1. Chemical catalyst
Tantalum pentachloride is an efficient catalyst and plays an important role in organic synthesis. It can promote chemical reactions such as Friedel-Crafts alkylation and acylation under low temperature and mild conditions, making complex organic synthesis processes more efficient and economical.
2. Materials science
In the field of materials science, tantalum pentachloride is an important precursor for the preparation of other tantalum compounds and materials, especially in the preparation of superconducting materials and tantalum-based capacitors in the electronics industry. Tantalum capacitors are indispensable components in modern electronic devices and are widely used to store and manage electrical energy.
3. Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD)
Tantalum pentachloride is used as a precursor for metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) in semiconductor manufacturing to deposit tantalum-containing films and coatings. These coatings are essential to improving the performance of semiconductor devices, ensuring that they perform well in demanding electronic applications.
4. Optical Coatings
Due to its excellent refractive index and light transmittance, tantalum pentachloride is also widely used in the manufacture of optical coatings. These coatings can significantly improve the performance of optical devices such as lenses and telescopes, allowing them to perform well in a variety of environments.
Storage and transportation:
Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. It should be stored separately from oxidants and edible chemicals, and mixed storage should be avoided.
Packaging specifications:
1kg/ bag, 10kg/ drum, or customized packaging according to customer requirements.
