Properties and Usage:
Pure potassium ferrate is a dark purple shiny powder with extremely high stability. It remains stable in dry air below 198°C, but is very soluble in water to form a light purple-red solution, which then decomposes to release oxygen and forms hydrated iron oxide precipitation. The solution is alkaline and quite stable under strong alkaline conditions, making it an excellent oxidant. Compared with potassium permanganate, potassium ferrate has stronger oxidizing and disinfecting effects.
1. Water treatment
Disinfectant: Potassium ferrate is a highly effective disinfectant that can effectively kill various pathogenic microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses and fungi. It performs well in drinking water and sewage treatment processes.
Oxidant: Remove organic pollutants, heavy metals and other harmful substances from water through oxidation reactions to ensure the purity and safety of water quality.
2. Environmental protection
Soil remediation: Potassium ferrate can be used to treat contaminated soil, and restore the ecological environment of the soil by oxidative degradation of organic pollutants such as petroleum hydrocarbons and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).
Waste treatment: In the process of solid waste treatment and hazardous waste disposal, potassium ferrate can effectively degrade toxic and harmful substances and reduce environmental pollution.
3. Chemical synthesis
Oxidant: In organic synthesis, potassium ferrate is used as a strong oxidant and can be used to oxidize alcohols, phenols and other organic compounds to improve reaction efficiency and yield.
4. Batteries and energy storage
Battery materials: Potassium ferrate has shown great potential in the research of new battery materials and can be used to develop batteries with high energy density and high stability, providing innovative solutions for energy storage.
