Properties and Usage:
L-lactic acid is a naturally occurring compound in living organisms and is used in food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, biodegradable plastics, agriculture and chemical industries.
1. Food industry
Acidity regulator: L-lactic acid is used as a food additive (E270) to adjust the acidity of food, enhance flavor and extend shelf life.
Fermented food: As the main product of lactic acid bacteria, L-lactic acid is widely used in the production of fermented foods such as yogurt, cheese and kimchi to improve the flavor and texture of food.
Food preservation: The acidity of L-lactic acid helps inhibit the growth of certain bacteria, thereby improving the safety and freshness of food.
2. Pharmaceutical industry
Drug preparation: As a sustained-release agent and stabilizer, L-lactic acid can improve the release characteristics and stability of drugs and is used in the manufacture of sustained-release drugs.
Medical materials: Used in the production of biodegradable medical materials such as absorbable sutures and drug delivery systems. L-lactic acid is a key raw material for polylactic acid (PLA).
3. Cosmetics Industry
Skin Care: L-lactic acid is used as a stratum corneum remover and moisturizer to help remove dead skin cells and promote skin regeneration. It can also adjust the pH value of cosmetics and maintain the natural acid-base balance of the skin. It is commonly found in creams, lotions and exfoliating products.
4. Biodegradable Plastics
L-lactic acid is the main raw material for the production of biodegradable plastics - polylactic acid (PLA). PL is used to make degradable packaging materials, disposable tableware and fibers.
5. Agriculture
Soil Improvement: As a soil conditioner, L-lactic acid can improve the acid-base balance of the soil and promote the growth of crops.
Animal Feed: As a feed additive, L-lactic acid can promote animal digestion and nutrient absorption and improve feed effectiveness.
6. Chemical Industry
L-lactic acid is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of chemicals such as lactates and lactates. These compounds play an important role in a variety of industrial applications.
