Properties and Usage:
Glutaraldehyde is a straight-chain dialdehyde with two aldehyde groups. It often exists in the form of a colorless liquid with a strong odor and high chemical reactivity. Its main application areas include:
1. Biomedicine and pharmaceutical manufacturing
Antibacterial agent: Glutaraldehyde is widely used in the disinfection of medical devices and equipment due to its high bactericidal properties. It can effectively kill bacteria, viruses and fungi, and is particularly suitable for high-level disinfection of heat-sensitive equipment.
Fixative agent: In histological and pathological studies, glutaraldehyde is used as a tissue fixative. It can maintain the structural integrity of tissue samples by cross-linking proteins in tissues, which is convenient for observation and analysis under a microscope.
2. Chemical synthesis
Crosslinking agent: The two aldehyde groups of glutaraldehyde make it an excellent crosslinking agent. In polymer chemistry, glutaraldehyde reacts with a variety of polymers to form a stable crosslinked network, thereby enhancing the mechanical properties and chemical stability of the material.
Synthetic intermediate: Glutaraldehyde is a key intermediate in synthetic chemistry, participating in the synthesis of drugs, dyes and other chemicals, and is an important component of many chemical reactions.
3. Plastics and Resins
Reinforcement: In the production of plastics and resins, glutaraldehyde is used as a cross-linking agent to improve the heat resistance, strength and chemical resistance of the material, thereby improving the performance of the final product.
4. Agricultural Chemicals
Glutaraldehyde is used as a fungicide in agricultural chemicals to control plant diseases and increase crop yields. It is an indispensable chemical in modern agriculture.
5. Dyes and Pigments
In the textile and coating industries, glutaraldehyde is an intermediate in the production of dyes and pigments and participates in the synthesis of various pigments.
6. Food Industry
In some countries and regions, glutaraldehyde is used as a food preservative, but its use is strictly regulated to ensure food safety.
7. Water Treatment
Water Purification: Glutaraldehyde is used in industrial water treatment to remove microorganisms and other pollutants in water and improve water quality.
Storage conditions: 1. Store in a cool, dry place and refrigerate. Or filled with argon sealed below 0℃ and stored away from light.
2. Ensure good ventilation in the workplace. Store away from oxidants.
Packing: This product is packed in 25kg or 220kg/ plastic drum or 1100kg/IBC tank, and it can also be customized according to customers' requirements
