Para-hydroxybenzoic acid (CAS 99-96-7), abbreviated as PHBA, is a hydroxy derivative of para-benzoic acid.

Main applications

1. Basic raw materials for preservatives

Ester derivatives of para-hydroxybenzoic acid (such as methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, etc.) are preservatives commonly used in food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical products. These esters, commonly known as "parabens" or "parabens", can effectively inhibit the growth of bacteria, yeast and mold.

2. Production of high-performance materials

Par-hydroxybenzoic acid is an important monomer in the synthesis of liquid crystal polymers (LCP). This type of polymer has excellent mechanical strength and high temperature resistance.

3. Important intermediates for drug synthesis

In the pharmaceutical field, para-hydroxybenzoic acid is an important intermediate in the synthesis of many drugs (especially antibacterial and anti-inflammatory drugs). It can also be used as an antioxidant to prevent oxidative degradation of drugs and chemicals and improve stability and effectiveness.
