2-Methyl-2,4-pentanediol (MPD) is an organic compound with solvent properties and the ability to act as a coupling agent.

1. Industrial solvent

2-Methyl-2,4-pentanediol (MPD) is a commonly used solvent in the manufacture of coatings, inks, and dyes. It not only improves the fluidity and adhesion of coatings and inks, but also effectively removes grease in detergent formulations; improves the fluidity of coatings.

 

2. Coupling agent and emulsifier

As an efficient coupling agent, MPD plays an important role in emulsification formulations and enhances the stability of emulsions. This property makes it widely used in products such as paints, varnishes, and adhesives.

 

3. Chemical intermediates

In the plastics industry, MPD can be used as a monomer to participate in polymerization reactions to prepare certain types of polyesters and polyethers. MPD is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of various chemicals, including plasticizers, resins, and lubricants.
