What is Trimethylolpropane?

Trimethylolpropane, abbreviated as TMP, is a trifunctional polyol with three primary hydroxyl groups, mainly used as a raw material for the synthesis of alkyd resins, polyurethane coatings and elastomers, acrylate monomers for UV-curable systems, and synthetic lubricant esters.

Compared with glycerol TMP offers better hydrolysis resistance and thermal stability due to its neopentane-type carbon core structure, making it particularly suitable for high-performance coatings and synthetic lubricant applications.

The Trimethylolpropane supplied by Foconsci Chemical has a purity of ≥98%, appearing as white flaky crystals or granules.

Trimethylolpropane Applications:

  • Trimethylolpropane  (TMP) is the crosslinking monomer for the production of alkyd resins and saturated polyester resins used in industrial coatings, paints, and coil coatings;
  • As a polyol raw material for polyurethane coatings, elastomers, and adhesives;
  • TMP is the raw material for the synthesis of Trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TMPTA)and its ethoxylated derivatives Trimethylolpropane Ethoxylate Triacrylate (EO-TMPTA) used in UV/EB-curable coatings, inks, and 3D printing resins;
  • As raw material for the synthesis of TMP ester synthetic lubricants used in aviation turbine oils, automotive engine oils, and refrigeration compressor oils;
  • As a surface treatment agent and dispersant for TiO₂ and other inorganic pigments.
  • Used as a glycerol substitute in alkyd resin synthesis, offering better hydrolysis resistance and thermal stability;
  • As a PVC heat stabilizer and textile auxiliary agent;
  • TMP can also used in the production of rosin esters and printing inks.

Packaging and Storage:

Packaging: Our Trimethylolpropane is packed in 25 kg/bag or 200 kg/drum.

Storage: TMP is hygroscopic — store in a tightly sealed container in a cool, dry place below 30°C to avoid caking.
