CMIT/MIT Preservative CAS 55965-84-9
Product Name: CMIT/MIT
Chemical Name: Mixture of 5-Chloro-2-methylisothiazolin-3-one and 2-Methylisothiazolin-3-one
Synonymous Names: C(M)IT/MIT; CMIT/MIT 3:1; Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone
CAS No.: 55965-84-9
Grade: CMIT/MIT 1.5%; CMIT/MIT 14%
Foconsci’s CMIT/MIT is a broad-spectrum preservative for water-based industrial products. It combines CMIT and MIT at a 3:1 ratio and controls bacteria, mould and yeast that can cause spoilage, odour, viscosity changes and product failure during storage.
We supply 1.5% and 14% active grades.
- CMIT/MIT 1.5% suits direct preservation of paints, polymer emulsions, adhesives, cleaners and other water-based formulations.
- CMIT/MIT 14% provides a concentrated option for biocide formulation and industrial users that handle larger volumes.

Applications of CMIT/MIT Preservative
Paints, Coatings and Polymer Emulsions: CMIT/MIT protects water-based paints, coatings and polymer dispersions from bacterial and fungal growth during storage.
Adhesives, Sealants and Construction Materials: CMIT/MIT preserves water-based adhesives, sealants, thickeners, concrete admixtures, plasters and mineral slurries against microbial contamination.
Detergents and Cleaners: CMIT/MIT controls bacteria, mould and yeast in surfactants, liquid cleaners and other water-based cleaning formulations.
Metalworking Fluids: CMIT/MIT protects water-based metalworking emulsions from microbial growth that can cause odour, emulsion breakdown and shorter fluid life.
Industrial Water Systems: CMIT/MIT controls microorganisms and slime in recirculating water and other industrial water systems.
Packaging and Storage
Our CMIT/MIT is packed in 25 kg drums, 200 kg drums or 1,000 kg IBCs.
Keep the container tightly closed and protect the product from heat and direct sunlight. Avoid long exposure to strongly alkaline conditions because they can reduce CMIT/MIT stability.
