Foconsci’s Benzisothiazolinone (BIT) is an industrial preservative for water-based products. It controls bacteria, yeast and mold during storage and helps prevent odor, viscosity change, emulsion damage and product spoilage caused by microbial growth.

BIT is mainly used in paints, polymer emulsions, adhesives, inks, detergents and metalworking fluids.

Water-Based Paints and Coatings: BIT is used as an in-can preservative in water-based paints, coatings, lacquers and related products. It helps control microbial growth that can cause odor, gas formation, viscosity changes, discoloration and loss of product stability.

Paper and Textile Chemicals: BIT is used in selected paper coatings, textile auxiliaries and water-based process chemicals. It protects formulations that contain water, polymers, thickeners or other biodegradable raw materials.

Adhesives and Sealants: BIT helps protect water-based adhesives, sealants and binding agents during storage. It is suitable for formulations containing polymer emulsions, starches or other components that can support microbial growth.

Polymer Emulsions: BIT is used in acrylic, styrene-acrylic, vinyl acetate and other polymer emulsions. It helps protect both the emulsion and downstream products made from the emulsion.

Printing Inks: Water-based printing inks can be affected by bacteria and fungi during storage. BIT helps reduce microbial spoilage and supports stable viscosity, odor and color performance.

Household and Industrial Cleaners: BIT is used to preserve liquid detergents, surface cleaners, fabric care products and industrial cleaning formulations. It helps protect water-based products during manufacturing, storage and repeated opening.

Metalworking Fluids: BIT can be used in selected water-based metalworking fluids and process liquids. It helps control microorganisms that may cause odor, emulsion breakdown, corrosion problems and shorter fluid life.

Packaging and Storage

Storage conditions: Seal in a cool and dry environment. Keep it ventilated, dry, and avoid direct sunlight. The temperature should be between 5 and 30°C.

FAQ

What is the difference between BIT 85% and BIT 20%?

BIT 85% is a concentrated solid used for producing preservative formulations. BIT 20% is a prepared liquid product that is easier to add directly to water-based systems.

Can BIT be added directly to water?

BIT powder has limited solubility in neutral water. It should be dissolved or dispersed through a suitable premix before being added to the main batch. BIT-20 liquid formulation is more convenient when direct addition is required.
